School Calendar Changes

To ensure students and families a two week winter break and a one week spring break, the Board of Education has changed the calendar for the coming year. The new calendar meets the wishes of the community while also keeping the semesters equal in length and accommodating parent conferences, professional development days and snow days. Please note the new calendar changes the start date of school to Monday, August 12th.

Millard North Middle School is excited to announce that we have received the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s National Recognition Bronze award for making changes that promote healthier eating and physical activity for students and staff. The Alliance for a Healthier Generation was founded by the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation. This award is granted by the Alliance’s Healthy Schools Program, as an effort to combat childhood obesity through the implementation of healthy changes within the school environment.

The National Recognition Award is an honor given nationally to showcase and acknowledge schools that have implemented changes in order to create healthier school environments and demonstrates our school’s commitment to preventing childhood obesity and to fostering the health of our students and staff.  We are one of only two hundred seventy-five awards given to public and private schools around the United States this year!  We are working hard towards a healthier culture here at NMS and have come a long way.  We are excited to bring even more staff and student changes to our school next year!

Celebrating school spirit is easy when you are a Mustang!
Friday, March 8, 2013 following the all-school performance of the musical, "School House Rock, Jr." students were surprised and excited to see the entire staff begin the "Harlem Shake." It didn't take long for all Mustangs to join in the 60 seconds of fun!
It's great to be a Mustang!

Did you know?

Did you know that we recycle ink and small electronics in the library?  We do!!  We send all our items to the funding factory. One of our missions in IB is look at our impact on the environment.  Encourage your children to bring in cartridges that are empty, small electronics as well as old cell phones so we can lessen our carbon footprint.  Since we have started this program  NMS students and families have recycled:
  • 560.68 lbs of toners
  • 133.39 lbs of inkjets
  • 12.05 lbs of cell phones
For a complete list of things that can be recycled go to fundingfactory.com and look under qualifying list.

Your business can also become a MNMS supporter and recycle for us.   It costs nothing for the business.
Call Mrs. Curtis for details.
